Dux Britanniarum Romano-British Warband

Release day of the TooFatLardies new Arthurian rules Dux Britanniarum !!!

Hope I will get the .pdf file soon... The .pdf file of the rules arriwed at  03:53am :) I have just open the file and at a first glance the layout looks realy good, (only the QRS had a strange white background at a part of the page...) will let you kow my first impressions about the rules as soon as I get some spare time to run it through...

Just to wait for the book and cards to arriwe...

My goal the last week have been to rebase 1 unit (6 minis) a day (and still get lots of time for the family...) until the 30th and the release of the rules. This have given me enough minis for a Romano-British starter army:

Romano-British
1x Warlord
2x Big Men
1x Champion
1x6 Household
2x6 Warrior
3x6 Levy
1x4 Missile

I will ofcourse also use the minis for Dux Bellorum to:) But for the Dux Bellorum Romano-British starter army I will need some cavalry to...and that will be re-basing step 2 in august just in time fore the release of the Dux Bellorum at august 20th.

Dux Britanniarum Numeri unit#1

Sins it´s only 7 days to the release of the TooFatLardies new Arthurian rules Dux Britanniarum I thought I would start to rebase my Romano-British infantry...

I´m actually up in darlecarlia for some holyday and I didn´t bring any minis to paint, just the minis for re-basing...

I will ofcourse also use the minis for Dux Bellorum to:) But for the Dux Bellorum Romano-British starter army I will need some cavalry to...and that will be re-basing step 2 in august just in time fore the release of the Dux Bellorum at august 20th.

My goal this week are to rebase 1 unit (6 minis) a day (and still get lots of time for the family...) until the 30th and the release of the rules. This will give me enough minis for a Romano-British starter army:

Romano-British
1x Warlord
2x Big Men
1x Champion
1x6 Household
2x6 Warrior
3x6 Levy
1x4 Missile

The first minis to get new round 20mm bases from Warbases are a unit of Numeri or Levy. I suppose my Numeri look a little to well equiped and uniform...but this was the most levy like minis I had painted up... at least they don´t have any armour;)

Dux Britanniarum Map...

It seems like the campaign map included in the up-comming Dux Britanniarum rules from TooFatLardies is realy something extra.

Can´t wait to get my copy... you can read more about the rules at the "Lard Islad News" blog and also see some rulebook pages.

40mm Oval Cavalry Bases

In my rebasing project I will base my cavalry on costum ordered oval 40mm bases from Warbases.

Here are some pictures of my first 2 rebased minis. It turned out realy nice. A little unsteady, but not much, it all depends on the possition of the mini on the base.

Saxon Warriors

Here are some close-ups of my Saxon Warband for Dux Bellorum.

I painted the minis some years ago but the bases and movement trays are brand new:) The minis will doubble as all kind of Germanic Barbarians but at the moment they are Saxons;)

In the back I have put the less equiped men as ordinary warriors. In total 4 bases.

1 base with Foot companions with leader, well armourd and equiped.

Most minis are from Foundry, but there ar the occasional mini from other manufacturs to...

The Foot companions are supported by 3 bases of well equiped and armoured Noble Warriors.

Next up will be some Late Roman or/and Romano-British i think...got to have some decent opposition for the Invading Saxons...

Dux Bellorum army

I have been working on some re-basing of my 28mm "generic" Germanic Barbarians lately...

It all have turned out in to my first 32 point Dux Bellorum army... a Saxon Warband according to the starter armys at Dan Merseys blog.

Saxons
1 Foot Companions with Leader @ 5 points
3 Noble Warriors @ 5 points each
4 Ordinary Warriors @ 3 points each

...It seems like there also have sneaked in some skirmishers in the pictures...bringing the army up to 33 points...  1 Foot Skirmisher (Sling/Javelin) @ 1 point each.

New based unit

Here are some pictures of some re-based minis and their new unit movement tray and my first Dux Bellorum unit;)

Minis are based on 20mm bases by Warbases.

The trays are 80x50mm and was special made by Warbases up on my request.

You can find more info about the up-coming Arthurina wargaming rules Dux Bellorum by Osprey at the Author Daniel Mersey´s blog.

Movement trays

As I mention I have rebased some of my Dark Age minis on 20mm singel bases for Skirmish gaming. But I still want to be able to play with them in nice units, especially now then Dux Bellorum soon are released...

So I ordered some customised movement trays from Martin and Diane at Warbases, can´t be recommended enough, they always give fast and exellent service.

The Infantry trays are 80x50mm and can hold 7 minis on 20mm bases. I designed the holes in a quite "unregular" pattern to give some more animation to the units.

The Cavalry trays are 80x80mm and can hold 5 minis on 40mm oval bases.

Re-basing...

Don´t you as a wargamer just love to re-base? ;)

I have decided to re-base some of my old generic dark age barbarians, I use them as Saxons, Franks, Goths etc.

I have had them based 6 minis on a 80x60 base but I thought it was to disperse...and I also wanted to be able to play some skirmish games with the minis...

So inspired by the Too Fat Lardies Dark Ages minis for Dux Britanniarum on 1p bases I decided to go for 20mm bases...

If it turns out well I probably will re-base my SAGA minis to...

AAR Battle at Älgsundet 1457 #3

I hope the PAR was a good teaser fot this AAR of our Kalmar Union War game using the Hail Caesar rules.

All was set them the players arrived to the club, they quite fast choose sides, 3 players for the King and 2 for the Archbishop and the mocking started...

The background to the battle you can find here at the PAR...Pre Action Report you get the OOB here again.

Command of C-in-C King Karl Knutsson (Bonde)
1 Small unit of Knights
1 Small unit of Knechts
1 Small Unit of Mercenary Handguners

Command of Erik Eriksson (Gyllenstierna)
1 Units of Mercenary halberdiers
1 Small unit of Mercenary crossbowmen

Command of Erik Axelsson (Tott)
2 Units of Allmoge (Västmanland and Närke)
1 Tiny unit of Mercenary handgunners

Left out in the PAR was the OOB for the Archbishops small forces...

Command of C-in-C Archbishop Jöns Bengtsson (Oxenstierna)
1 Small unit of Knights (May dismount and lead the Allmoge units by example from the “front”, giving them the Stubborn ability)
2 Units of Allmoge (Fjärdhundra and Uppland)

Set-up: The Archbishops small force had the initiative and would march on the battlefield in therir first order.

The Kings men was still asleep and had to be waken on the first order, rallied in fighting formation in the second order and might move in the third order.

The Archbishops allmoge soldiers made a swift advance against the kings camp hoping to catch him still in bed...

The Kings Mercenarys under command of Gyllenstierna was quick out of bed, formed a battle line and started to advance against the enemy, after all they were drilled and apperently well worth the money invested...

Coulden´t say the same about the Tott command, he´s allmoge soldiers took their time...

...and the King keep sleeping...

The pigs...sorry I mean Mercenarys took possitions and awaited the King to awake and get his Knights and Knecht up and running...suppose it take some extra time to get all that heavy armour on...

Back att the outskirt of the battlefield the Tott Command also did slow progress...

At last the King and his Knights managed to leave their beds and made a swift advance to catch up with the Mercenarys.

The Archbishop continued his advance straight forward the Kings gathering forces, he diden´t even consider the threat from the Command of Tott to his left flank...

Like a lightning bold the news spread through the battle field...Erik Axelsson from the house of Tott and all his allmoge soldiers had turned side and was from now on supporting the Archbishops cause:)
The Kings men cursed his defection and backstabing promising to learn him a lesson...

All did now understan the Archbishops bold advance and self-confidence. I haden´t told the Tott player that he was a traitor, didn´t want him to mouth about it to the King in advance;)

Annoyed by the defection of Tott the King ordered an all out charge, that fell flat, only the eager knight ruched forwad but not long enough...siting ducks...

The Archbishops allmoge soldiers responded by a immense crossbow fire...

The Kings Knights had been realy soften up, but the king still ordered a further charge, both the King himself and Gyllenstierna joined the battle from the front rank...

After a fierce battle one of the Allmoge units had to retreat in to the forest...giving good protection from further cavalry charges...

The confident German Mercenary halberdmen wasn´t so confident after a close fight with the other Allmoge unit and had to choose from either retreat in good order or stay in the fight disordered...they choose the later and stayed in combat...probably shoulden´t...

At the same time the traitor Tott advanced within shooting range of the Gyllenstiernas Mercenary crossbowmen, that had taken cover in the field and behind pavises...

The Kings Knights hesitated, while the Knecht and Handgunners started a firefight with the Allmoge soldiers in the forest...

Gyllenstiernas German Mercenarys was further puched back and after several turns of close fighting they broke and Gyllenstierna himself was wounded...

Now the Kings battle was hard pressed and the Knight took even more hits from the hail of crossbow bolts.

The Tott command continued a slow advance against the Mercenary Crossbowmen, making no progress with the shooting...

The Kings Knights broke after several turns of shooting...

In the last stage of the battle The allmoge under command of Tott charged the Mercenary Crossbowmen...

The Kings men were cut down and the king himself managed to escape and flee to Stockholm.

King Karl had lost all support and thought that he´s cause was lost so he escaped with the royal treasure and went into exile to Danzig (Gdańsk). The two leaders of the revolt took the regentship, and organized the election of Christian I of Denmark as king (firstly in Turku, then in Stockholm).

But King Karl Knutsson (Bonde) would be back…
